Friday Night Pug Raid.. Absolute Win! and a New Mount

I finally got my Snowfeather Hatchling pet up to the point where I had to go and kill Ursoc with it, so I decided to pug into a group rather than go through LFR as it’d give me more AP.. I swear I’m an AP junkie at the moment.

I found a guild heroic EN run through the group finder and signed up but didn’t pay much attention to what realm it was. When I jumped on their discord I was really surprised to hear mostly New Zealand and Australian accents. The guild was from Jubei-thos which is an oceanic realm so it instantly felt really comfortable.

It was a really fun raid with super friendly people and I was healing with a Shaman from the guild that was running the raid, and we kept having competitions to see who could outheal the other.  He started streaming the raid from Dragons onwards so I watched along as we raided. I’m was super excited to find a new streamer to watch.. if you want to check it out. Language warning though.

Toco came online for right as we got to Xavius and snagged himself an invite by using the new bnet function to request an invite through me which I didn’t even realise he could do. So then both the Shammy and I were on discord screaming about Toco outhealing us both.Turns out Toco was listening to us shout about his healing via the stream lol.

I picked up a nice amount of AP from the raid and ended up with 2 new bnet friends, the Shammy and a really funny Mage, maybe I’ll end up pugging some more with them. I do love when pugs turn out so much better than expected!

Once I finished in the raid, I started the last quest for the Snowfeather hatchling. It was to defeat 3 world pet battles with the Snowfeather hatchling and 2 undead pets. Thank goodness for multiple alts as I had already done all the pet battles on Z and my Priest. Luckily my DK had a set of the pet battles up (funny enough my Hunter didn’t) so I headed off.

The 3 pet battles I had up were All pets go to heaven, Only pets can prevent forest fires and Rocko. The teams I used:

All Pets go to heavenSnowfeather Hatchling, Unborn Val’kyr, Spectral Spinner
Rocko – Snowfeather Hatchling, Mr. Bigglesworth, Ghostwolf Pup
Only pets can prevent forest fires – Unborn Val’kyr, Snowfeather Hatchling, Creepy Crate

And then it was time to take the hatchling home! The quest was quite heartwrenching when I got him back to his mum but it worked out in the end and I have a new pretty mount. That’s 1/4 down.

Pretty good Friday night on wow tbh 🙂

Random Tuesday Mutterings

It’s my weekly look back at what I got up to in WoW and I have to say it’s been pretty quiet on the wow front this week. I haven’t even blogged since last Tuesday /gasp.

Wednesday we ran through heroic EN, which doesn’t take any time at all anymore, but we didn’t have 20 online  to progress to mythics so it was a short night.  I’m still working my way through Vikings, so I took advantage of the early night and logged off and watched more episodes. On Thursday I ran around doing a lot of pet battles with the pet bonus week active.

On Friday afternoon, Klor came down for the weekend so there wasn’t any playing over the weekend as I caught up with him, and  it was Blizzcon on Saturday!! So we watched a bit of Blizzcon in the morning and then went out to Dinner with Cinder, Klor, SpazzWesson (Cinder’s co-host on Reins of Azeroth) and Sirius (Spazz’s partner, and amazing artist – she does the art for Reins). I love catching up with wow friends outside of the game and it was a really good night.

Then Sunday I popped onto wow in the evening for raid and we actually had 20 people so we looked at Mythic Nythendra. We didn’t get her down which was disappointing but hopefully we’ll have 20 again for raid on Wednesday.

Monday was more pet battling. I got the Direbeak Hatchling which was the last of the four I needed and , with the pet bonus I made sure I leveled all the hatchlings to 25.

I also spent a ton of time in my Garrison as Squirt was the pet battle and her fight gives a lot of experience to a levelling pet, so I raised a lot of pets to 25. I’m going to miss the pet bonus now it’s finished for the week. There’s heaps of Legion pets I haven’t caught yet so I might put some time aside and take a levelling toon around the zones to pick up the missing pets on the weekend.

I didn’t get through much other content at all this week, I took my hunter through one mythic plus right at the end of the week and Z didn’t even get a look in. I did get Dreamweavers to Exalted which gave me 55 Reps on Z, only 5 to go for her Beloved Title now. Darkmoon faire is up until Sunday so I should take advantage of the plus 10% to rep buff.

I did find that there’s an amazing look for Travel Form down in Suramar. When I realised that our kitty form had changed, I never even thought to look at the other forms. I love travel form so much, the runes on the armor fade in and out and just looks awesome.

And I found a wedding going on Azsuna. It’s right near the Stormfeather world quest so not sure how I missed it before but it was really cool to see. Apart from when a stupid alliance hunter came and killed the bride and groom while I was taking photos so I had to wait for them all to respawn. I attacked the hunter out of revenge which was nice.

And that’s another week in wow wrapped up. How was your week in wow?

Random act of froggyness

I’ve been ignoring Anax, the rare frog out the front of Shal’aran for the entirety of this expansion. I still have nightmares about frogs because of the ones on the Timeless Isle in MOP (with their lovely stacking debuff that exploded you when your stacks got too high) so I was quite happy to leave him to sit on his little island and pretend he wasn’t there each time NPC scan shouted at me.

But I happened to be running past on Z last night and there was an alliance feral druid attacking the frog and the poor druid was nearly dead.  Feeling sorry for them and since they were another druid, I decided to stop and help. I was really careful to only use shred so I didn’t accidentally put a bleed onto them and we finished off Anax.

I was so surprised when I looted him and he dropped a companion pet! If I had realised he was hiding a pet, I would have killed him weeks ago.

He’s quite a dignified little frog. I might have to cart him around the world with me a bit to get over my fear of frogs.

I have a Goat

I was running through some bounties last night and I heard the little treasure goblin giggle. So I tracked him down and it was a sort I hadn’t seen before, a Menagerist Goblin.  I was a bit excited at the name.. Immediately linking it to menagerie and really hoped that meant it might have something to do with pets.. and it did!

I’m now the owner of a strange little goat called Lady Morthanlu that brandishes a bone as a weapon and randomly stands up on it’s hind legs.

Goat pet

The goblin has a chance to drop 19 different pets and will only drop a pet that the player(s) do not have.

It was only added in this new patch (2.4.1) so while there’s reports of it being a rare goblin, hopefully as the season goes on I’ll have a chance to see more of them and collect the other pets.

A Wind Rider Cub for Christmas

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Blizzard store hoping they would bring the plush Horde Windrider toys back in stock and they obligingly did, just in time for Christmas. So as a Christmas present to myself, I ordered one.

The plush toy is so cute!

He came with his own little horde bag and best of all, a code for an in-game Windrider Cub.

Windrider Cub

He even flys when I’m on a flying mount. So adorable!

Flying Windrider Cub

I’m trying to decide if I want to buy the Alliance one. While it would be nice to have the matching pair of plush toys I don’t think the Gryphon is as cute and there’s already an in-game battlepet gryphon cub so I probably won’t.

Taking low level alts to Draenor for the Pet Tamers

I’ve always liked to leave alts around at various Pet tamers, usually the ones that give Pet Bags like the Deadwind Pass and Winterspring Tamers, as it saves me flying from tamer to tamer to do their dailies. I also have a little Gnome priest that has spent the better part of the last 2 years stationed in Stranglethorn Vale doing the pet battle daily, as one battle will get a level 1 pet to level 7 with little chance of the lvl 1 pet dying, so a nice fast fight for xp for pet and toon.

I haven’t dropped alts off at the tamers in Draenor as the Pet Charms the bags drop were soulbound so I only visited the tamers if I happened to be near one when out and about on Zeirah. However, I noticed the other day that the charms had become account bound and that got me thinking how I could drop alts in front of Draenor tamers to do the daily pet battles as they could do the daily, get a bit of xp for the quest and send the stones off to Zeirah who could turn them in at the garrison vendor for upgrade stones.

I didn’t want to move any 90+ alts that have opened up their garrison as I like being able to do their missions daily, they bring in a nice bit of gold and the xp missions are handy and as their minions get higher ilvls and open up the higher gear missions they do missions to give 645 gear for when they hit level 100. So that meant bringing alts that are sub-90 into Draenor. I decided to try moving my level 43 rogue, Zeira down to Spires of Arak to Vesharr. I chose this tamer as he’s in a town so I figured there should be little to aggro around him and possibly  a close-by mailbox. Turns out there isn’t a mailbox in that town but the flightpath to Axefall is right next to the tamer so I could make my back to Axefall and post the charms away.

The first step in getting my toon to Draenor was actually getting to the Timeless Isle in Pandaria first to use the portal into Gorgond. A friendly mage with a portal to the Shrine took care of that. Given how low level she was I asked my bf to let me borrow his level 100 toon to fly her over to the Timeless isle and escort her through Draenor.

Once on the isle I made my way to the underwater cave, just near Stinkbraid’s pirate ship.

Timeless Isle chair portal map

In the cave there is a circle of chairs surrounding a bonfire. Sitting in a chair and clicking the Bonfire teleports you to the north-east edge of Gorgond. Having a way to get non-90s to Draenor was a genius move on Blizzards behalf.

Timeless Isle chair portalGorgond chair portal

Getting through Gorgond and down to Spires took a bit of patience and time. I did have it in mind to stealth my way through, but stealth broke instantly and her aggro radius was huge so mobs basically fell over each other to get to her from half the zone away, she definitely needed a bodyguard to avoid a massive corpse drag through the zones.

Flipping between screens to attack the mobs and then rez my little toon was a little slow (and frustrating) so my bf kindly offered to come play his toon himself and that made the rest of the trip down to Spires much faster. I would recommend if you want to take a very low-level into Draenor, see if you can find a friend who’s willing to devote a bit of time to helping you and try to make sure they’re on a class that can rez, it’ll save so much time compared to having to run back to your corpse.

Putting a low-level toon in front of Vesharr was so much fun I  decided to move a second toon down to Shadowmoon Valley to Ashlei. I  figured Canji, my level 90 Alliance hunter who I don’t have plans to level any time soon, would be perfect. The higher level toon made getting through Draenor a breeze compared to the rogue and she was more than able to solo her way down to Shadowmoon.

She was able to fly herself to the isle and then I chose a different path to take which skirted most of the mobs in Gorgond and at 90 her camouflage (stealth ability) didn’t break even in aggro range so I was able to walk pretty much the whole way down through Gorgond, through Talador into Zangarra and then ride down the Taanan Channel and into Shadowmoon. Much simpler and faster!

I wouldn’t mind moving one more toon over to Nagrand but it’s a much further trip than Spires and Shadowmoon, so  I’ll leave that for another day.

Draenor Tamers and low level alt viability

Vesharr – Spires of Arak.

No aggro around the Tamer as well as access to a repairs/vendors and an inn for faster logout. There’s no mailbox but the flightpath to Axefall is right there (Make sure you pick up Axefall flightpath on the way through) and you can fly to Axefall, post your charms and fly back without drawing aggro.  Not sure how this would go for Alliance characters as I don’t know the Alliance town nearby but I’m guessing it would probably be fine.

Tarr the Terrible – Nagrand

This will probably be the next tamer I try to get an alt to. High in the north of Nagrand it’s a lot longer run than to Spires but once there it looks like there should be little mobs to aggro around the tamer and there is a mailbox and vendor in the immediate area. It also means easy access to the black market auction house to see what’s listed.

Ashlei – Shadowmoon Valley

Much easier for an Alliance alt. Ashlei is fairly close to Embaari Village which gives access to vendors/mailboxes and repairs. There is a mob that pats close by but I’m don’t think even a low alt would be in aggro range. No mailbox near by for Horde.

Gargra –Frostfire Ridge

Low chance to draw aggro however no access to any mailboxes so your charms are going to be a bit difficult to post away. Fine if you want to let them accumulate for a bit though.

Taralune – Talador

Should be ok for aggro once you’re there but I couldn’t find any close by mailboxes.

Cymre – Gorgond

I don’t think I’d try this one. I stopped past her on the way through with Canji and it looks like the mobs are super close. I think they’d aggro on a low level alt pretty easily and there are no mailboxes close by.

Mobs around Cymre

I’ve been waiting rather impatiently all day for Graves to find his way to me, I do love getting new pets!

I had checked on Heros before I went to work this morning and when I came home but there was no notification of Graves’ arrival either time. Then tonight after raid, I logged back into Heros and there was a notification that I had received Graves as a reward for reaching level 20.

I logged back into wow but Graves still wasn’t showing up, but after I closed and restarted the launcher and wow I had mail from Breanni letting me know this little guy was found in Duskwood Cemetary and was looking for a home.

He is actually really quite cute.  New pets are always exciting. I can’t wait to level him up and see what his abilities are like.

Heros of the Storm and a free mount for your toons

I’ve been playing Heros of the Storm on and off since it first went onto beta. It’s the first Moba style game I’ve played.. in case you’re wondering (I was), a moba is…

Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), also known as action real-time strategy (ARTS), originated as a subgenre of the real-time strategy (RTS) genre of video games, in which a player controls a single character in one of two teams. Wikipedia.

Basically it’s a team of 4-5 players (you can play with real ppl or AI players which is good if you don’t feel like interacting) against another team (AI or real) and you play across a map with the ultimate aim of destroying the other team’s towers which are protecting a larger tower called a Core before they destroy yours. First team to fully destroy the other’s Core wins the game. There are objectives to complete along the way that can help your team destroy the others and there are little minions that spawn for each team that can help attack and hold up the other side as you try to win.

Attacking the Core
In Heros, the characters you can choose to play as are drawn from across the Blizzard universe, so in a single match you can find Wow, Starcraft and Diablo characters. The best thing is some of the characters can interact with each other and have a little conversation at the start of the game depending on which characters people have chosen. So far I’ve heard Muradin Bronzebeard tell Arthas to keep that sword (Frostmourne) away from him and Arthas replied telling Muradin to stay out of his way (in wow when Arthas claimed Frostmourne, Muradin was injured and lost his memory). The other interaction I’ve heard is Raynor asking Nova to not shoot him again but I missed the rest of the conversation and as I’m don’t know any  Starcarft lore I’m not sure what was going on there.
The heros rotate each week so you can try out different characters regularly and if you really like a toon you can buy them (either with real money or the in-game gold you can earn through quests or winning matches), so you  can access them all the time not just the week they are open. I’ve played my way across quite a  few toons but my favourites are:

Li Li, Malfurion and Falstad.

The toon I haven’t played with but really want to try, mostly because of how awesome she looks is Sylvanas.

Seriously awesome looking. I wonder if she and Arthas have any interaction if they are in a match together. She’s currently 10k gold to buy (not sure how much in real money), I have enough to buy her but I’m holding off until she comes free to play just to try her out. I would hate to spend my in-game gold on a toon I didn’t actually like to play once I try her.

The game goes live today, I’m not sure what time due to the time difference between here (Aus) and the game headquarters (US) but as there won’t be any more wipes the integration from beta to live should be seemless and no progress should be lost.

As a perk of it going live Blizzard has a little facebook game set up and you can take part and get a free mount for your Hero to ride around on. I didn’t know about this, so a big thanks to Cinder for posting about it or I might never had known. Basically you like the Heros facebook page and play a quick game building a team of 5 of your facebook friends and assigning traits to your team. Then, based on the traits you pick you and your friends are matched to the Heros toon that most resemble you. The traits I took for myself were Chatterbox and Likes to Explore and I was matched up with Zeratul; a Starcraft npc I know nothing about but apparently it’s a chatty exploring type.

HoTS FB Mount

Malfurion on his new Mechanospider mount.

There’s also a pet in the pet journal, Graves,  that comes from reaching level 20 in Heros of the Storm, so I’m really hoping this little guy will turn up in the mail when the game goes live.

It’s a free to play game and there’s no real reason to spend real money on the game to be able to play it so if you’ve been thinking about it, definitely give it a try, the matches are relatively fast and watching and listening to the different characters is really entertaining.

A lot of Noblegarden luck

I haven’t had a great deal of time to spend in wow lately, real life and trying to get my head around a research thesis which I just can’t seem to find inspiration for has kept me out of Azeroth more than I’d like. But a friend texted me today to see if I had collected enough eggs to buy the new Noblegarden pet and as I hadn’t logged in since the event started I decided I’d make a little time and log in tonight.

I’ve never hunted for eggs as a hordie before and even though wowhead suggested that Falconwing Square is the best place to collect eggs in, I was able to get to Razor Hill faster so thought I’d try there. I was pretty lucky in that the place was almost deserted and I could collect eggs in druid flight form (yes I did feel a bit guilty but the convenience outweighed the guilt) so I did a few laps until my free bag spaces were full of eggs and started unwrapping them to get the chocolate currency inside. It was going to take me 100 choccys to get the pet and 500 more for the mount. Seeing it was so deserted and the eggs were piling up really fast I thought I’d see how far I could get into the 600 needed before my patience and time I could justify ran out.

I couldn’t believe my luck though, as I was clicking on the 97th egg to unwrap it, I looted the mount!  So I was able to get the mount, pet and a pretty easter themed outfit (shame it’s not transmogable) in record time, meaning I can go back to struggling to find an original research angle and not miss out on wow events. If ever this was the time I needed wow luck, I got it. Thanks Blizz xx

Merry Christmas and a few random things

Merry Christmas All.Hopefully you all had a great Christmas in and out of Wow. I was really excited to find a For the Horde T-shirt and a Sylvanas Figurine under the tree for me on Christmas day. I’ve wanted a Warcraft T-shirt for ages. I wore it around the house all day Christmas day but can’t wait to go out and about in it.

For the Horde Shirt

Inside the game I’ve also managed to collect a few nice little presents. Great Father Winter brought a few new toys with him this year so I took a few toons to Orgrimmar and Ironforge to open pressies and was lucky enough to pick up all the different types of lounge cushions which look pretty cool. They don’t have a shared cooldown so you can drop a few of them at once and have a lounge party where ever you are.

Lounge chairs

I also owe Luxy a big thank you. Since I read about the Soulare of Andorhal giving you a toy, I’ve been trying to recruit him from the Inn with no luck until Luxy mentioned that she had him in his garrison and was happy to invite anyone who wanted to get the toy. When you emote /tired at him, you receive a Wayfarer’s Bonfire.

I was so excited to finally get a Sky bo pet today. I had logged onto my bf’s account to borrow one of his toons so I could fly a low toon of mine around and as I was passing through Ashran on my way to Undercity I noticed a Blingtron 5000 up. I can’t resist collecting his presents and was so surprised to see the pet pop out of the bag. The best thing was he  already has a Sky bo so didn’t mind me trading the pet to my toon.

Sky bo

And just a bit of random trivia about pets. I’ve noticed my blossoming ancient pet parading around my garrison in his summer get up and it just occurred to me tonight that it’s US Winter atm so I assumed with the move to Oceanic servers his foliage had changed to match the Oceanic seasons. I excitedly whispered Cinder the news but when she summoned him, he appeared in Winter garb. I summoned mine to check and sure enough he turned up in Winter leaves. I’m not sure why he comes around my garrison in Summer clothes; it’ll be interesting to see if his leaves change when patrolling the garrison as the seasons change.
