Random Tuesday Mutterings

Random Tuesday Mutterings is the perfect place to put the random assortment of what-nots I’ve got up to in Azeroth each week.

This has been a really fun week in WoW. It’s Easter time in Azeroth so the first thing I did today was run down to Razor Hill and camp out on top of eggs so I could get the new Noblegarden bunny. Soo cute

Clicking on the eggs also turned me into a pink bunny!

Collecting the bunny pet led to turning into bunnies which somehow then led into the most ridiculous fun I’ve had in wow in a long while. Dec, Naz and I all met up in Orgrimmar and we started to play with the Dragon toys you get from Lunar Festival. I haven’t had anyone to test out all the pieces with before but Dec had them, so we used a reflecting prism to get Naz into a body and it skyrocketed.

We started to get people watching us walk around Org and Zuma was so funny taking selfies of us (and being all adorable in his pink dress and flowers), so we ended up pulling him into the party with us and getting him into a body part too. Then we took the show on the road and ended up in Dalaran. We had so many people come and join us, including more guildies and it was hilarious when the appearance timer would run out and we’d have to juggle body parts to make sure the people who didn’t have the toy stayed together in the right body part.

Seriously one of the best group toys there is.

And I found one of the best perks of flying is that you can get up on top of the Alliance’s tower in Dalaran and you can join with them in their little lounge area, and if you’re really careful you can go right down the stairs near to their portal area. Dec, Rix and I camped out there in between queuing for areanas and Rix and I tried to set up a Horde camp where they’d see it, but there were no Alliance around. Most disappointing ūüė¶

I went back to HFC to see how far we could get for transmog/mounts and ended up clearing through the whole place. We were able to kill the first two bosses with just 2 people and then steadily pulled in friends and guildies as we went up through them. I really thought I had done some mythic with Deadline in there but I guess not as I got the achievement for every boss.

My priest got her weapon traits unlocked, I really need to get around to doing so much more on her, especially if she’s going to be needed for split runs. I’m really considering moving her to my second account so I can multi-box her and Zee at the same time and get everything done so much faster.

I was looking through achievements Z didn’t have and found one that gave a pet as a reward. In Stonelight Grotto in Highmountain, there’s a snail race and if you go slow the other snails down to let Zoom win, you get him as a reward. Apparently you can slow them with your body by making yourself bigger, but that didn’t really work for me. What did work was bringing out a Fragment of Desire pet and it luckily cast a stun on the other snails and Zoom could rush through.

And that was my week in WoW!

Random Tuesday Mutterings

Random Tuesday Mutterings is the perfect place to put the random assortment of what-nots I’ve got up to in Azeroth each week.

It feels like it’s been¬† a relatively quiet week in WoW. I don’t think I’ve got up to much out of the ordinary. Z’s sitting at trait 53 so there was quite a few mythic pluses done over the week to gather up more artifact power. She only has 2 mil to go and then I can stop the serious grind for a bit and just gather AP as it comes my way. I only did a 15 this week, I didn’t really feel like pushing higher keys and a 15 does give good loot. Maybe next week I’ll try for a higher key.

I ran some old raids and picked up a few achs. AQ 40 gave me the last bit of rep for Brood of Nozdormu, so now only 9 reps to go! I also got a new transmog out of there and only have Tier 2 to go and my order hall racks will be full.

I also ran through some old WoD raids with Twice and Kublas and picked up two new titles and a few extra achs.

I’ve been working on my Demon Hunter’s campaign and I¬† was super excited to see a Vikings reference in the quests for it. Lucky I’m only doing it now because a few months ago I had no idea of the series and I wouldn’t have got the references at all. Funny enough I was actually watching one of the new episodes while doing the quest!

A couple of weeks ago I want into SOO with Kublas¬† and he tamed Thok, so over the weekend we went back so I could also grab him for my own. He’s so adorable as a mini dino. I want to find a blue flashy transmog to match him.¬† thok-pet

On one of my pugs into Heroic EN this week (I really do like that raid), the hidden appearance for bear dropped! Now I have all the hidden skins for the 4 Druid specs so I’m pretty lucky.¬† I really like the hidden appearance for bear, in its little cage of bones.hidden-bear-1

The hatching of the Hippogrpyhs was on so I popped down with Toco as we were both on druids and had the easy port into Feralas! I got my hippogryph baby and picked up the item that made it last the extra days. It was really awesome having it travel around with me and so  super cute how it sat on my back in cat form.

And ever since I’ve started paying attention to the Star Augur scenery I’m still seriously blown away by how gorgeous it is.

This week I’ll have to try to get some better screenshots and ones of the void infested planet as well.

And that was my week in WoW. Let’s see what next week brings.

How was your week in WoW?

A flying achievement

While I’m really glad flying is coming in 6.2 (to be accurate, the achievement that grants it), because well I’m lazy and I like the convenience of flying, I’m also a little saddened it came about after the horrible response on the forums. I’d like to think it’s come about because the developers read the measured calm words of people like Matthew Rossi¬† and not the frenzied posts that make me wonder why the hell people play this game anyway if all they do is want to skip content. Really the attitude of “I’d do this (insert activity of choice), if only flying” was getting up my nose. No, you bloody wouldn’t, if you really wanted to do something you’d do it regardless.

But anyway, right or wrong, flying is coming and yet still the complaints are there. The most common one I’ve seen is along the lines of there’s too many requirements needed to get flying. Basically I feel it boils down to; “but I wanted to skip content and now you’re making me do it?”. Honestly, why the heck do people play this game if they don’t want to do anything?

Requirement for flying achievement

Loremaster of Draenor

This is so much easier to do than the old world loremaster achievements. You basically get shepherded from major quest line to quest line, many are even marked on your map with an ! and you don’t have to do every quest in the zone, just the ones in the major quest lines. I hit loremaster and still found there were quite a few quests left over to do, unlike old world zones where you quite often were searching for the elusive last quests.

Securing Draenor

This is made much easier now by being able to buy up the missions from the Garrison Quartermaster for 200gr each. While it’s a bunch of killing at the various locations there are things you can loot in each area, or slaves to release or trees to burn which all add to your total progress and make that blue bar fill up. there are only a couple that are really better done in a group, The Pit and Shattrath City namely, but they can be soloed, just don’t pull the whole zone and you should be fine. And it could have been worse – the requirement could have included you to do all the achievements associated with each quest.

100 Treasures

100 is only half of the 200 required for the meta achievement so that’s hardly doing “all the content in order to fly” really, it’s half the content. There are a ton of addons that make doing this achievement easier, Tomtom adds waypoints to your map and Handynotes marks the treasures on your map. Or you can buy a treasure map, once you’ve done loremaster in each zone, that marks the spots, but Handynotes means you can do the two at once.

3 Reputations in Tanaan

Apparently these aren’t going to be the grindfest that is reputation currently so hopefully it’ll be a little more motivating. With the addition of an Ashran portal in your garrison, you really can free up your main hearthstone for ease of getting around the world so fingers crossed there will be an inn near the daily hub and your hearthstone can be set there, negating the need to jump on a flightpath or a ride.

So what is there to be done once you get flying?

If you read certain places you’d be inclined to think you may as well pack up the game until 6.3 because you’ve worked your way through the game and there’s nothing left to do but really you’ve just scratched the surface of the game in order to get flying.

Pet battles – you can fly to each tamer – given that 6.2 is going to introduce a ton of rewards to buy with pet charms , this will be handy .

Quests – Loremaster doesn’t mean you’ve finished all the quests so you can get out there and hunt them down.

Archeology – because apparently this wasn’t able to be done when you didn’t have a flying mount.

Achievement Hunting

Follower Collecting

Stick Pepe on your head and go kill bosses looking cute/ridiculous depending on your perspective

Collect Toys

and of course you could always AFK in the air above your nominated capital city watching trade chat, rather than sitting on the ground doing the same.

Pretty much if none of the above appeals to you, I would definitely have to ask, why are you playing this game?

I am happy with an achievement, saves me a ton of gold (especially if alts are factored in) that I can spend on a new mount or a pet or a pretty dress.

Playing the Rep game

My mage, Zira (now Jazria) is my oldest toon and she’s also the one who had the job of running around collecting achievement points and maxing out reputations. She’s the toon that completed Loremaster, back as a night elf and got the explorer title for visiting every zone.

Night Elf Zira

But when most of the achievements went account bound and I changed my main toon to Zeirah, I took over completing achievements on Z but left reputation hunting to my mage. Jaz is currently sitting at 45 Exalted reps, a mix of vanilla, bc and cata reps but¬† she hasn’t touched Mop or Warlords one (she’s still only 93). Z on the other hand has all the MoP ones maxed, including the grindfest that was Emperor Shaohao and is well on her way to maxing out the Warlords reps.

I always had the intention of getting all the reps on my mage but it suddenly occurred to me that I really am double handling the reps this way and since the reputations in this expac are so.. for want of a better word damn boring – kill this, kill that – I don’t know if I really would want to go back again on another toon. Daily quests I really don’t mind, sticking a tabard on and running dgns I really don’t mind, looting bodies for trinkets to hand in I also don’t mind but mindlessly killing mobs is downright painful.

So I guess I’m tossing up between two options, keep going as I am, with Z getting the new reps maxed out for the rewards when they are fairly current and then going back and doing it all over again on my mage. Or, what occurred to me is¬† taking Z back through the old content and getting her the older reps so that as new reputations come out she can max them out in current content and I don’t have to take my mage through them all over again.

But I’m really not sure which would be faster, my mage has more reps but hasn’t touched the ones you can only get through killing multiple mobs whereas Z has all the reps from the last 2 expacs but overall doesn’t have that many reps at all. I know I spent a very¬† long time trotting back and forth to Outland doing the daily quests out there for the various factions as well as countless dgn runs during Cataclysm on my mage but the timeless isle grind as well as all the different factions in MoP took up a seriously long time too.

 Hmm decisions decisions

Getting out and about

One of the very common complaints on the forums surrounding WoD is the constant catch cry of “but there’s no content” and if I’m perfectly honest I’ve been a little guilty of sometimes harboring the same thoughts at times. The 6month break on my blog probably gives that away, but really recently my wow mojo has come back and I’ve found there are actually there is a ton of content I just haven’t been inspired to do it earlier.

I’ve been working on getting all the achievements for the Apexis daily quests done. This is much easier since 6.1 as you can¬† buy mission scrolls from your garrison quartermaster for 200gr rather than wait for the appropriate daily to come around. Most of the achs are really easily done, however some of the achs need you to do things like burn 100 trees so they’ll probably take a couple of trips to get done. Luckily the progress doesn’t reset. Running around doing all the extra quests means I’ve finally got Leorajh to best friends status. The benefit for having him all friendly is I can check my missions anywhere by talking to him.

The other thing I’ve been up to is archeology, a lot of archeology. I’ve been digging in Draenor trying to get pristine versions of all the archeology items so I can fill up my treasure room in my garrison.

Treasure Room garrison

I’ve been turning all my restored artifacts into crates of Vrykul pieces and solved the Vrykul Drinking Horn toy. Next one to focus on is the Nerubian as I don’t have any rare solves from them and there is 2 toys that can be collected.

Vrykul drinking horn

6.2 is removing the option of using spirit of harmonies to buy up restored artifacts, so I used up all my stored ones for Z to pick up a few bonus crates.

And finally, while I was out and about on my Shammy doing her never-ending dailies for the stables look what she found.

Clumsy Adventurer Nagrand

The clumsy adventurer is located about halfway down a series of small cliffs in Nagrand.

Edge of Reality found

Rather fittingly after yesterday’s post about flying and exploration, I had a really lucky find while out and about in Grogond finishing off some exploration achievements. I was running along and thought I’d jump up some of the small pools you can find in the hills in Gorgond and at the very top of a small set I saw a purple misty column. It was clickable and gave me the message that I was queued for scenarios. My immediate thought was that Blizz had sneakily hidden scenarios in the game and I was quite excited to find one. When the loading screen finished, this was what I found.

  Edge of reality

The location I was at was called the Edge of Reality and there was a pretty huge suprise in in there. Clicking on the egg on the floor gave me a really lovely mount.

Edge of reality 2

The Edge of Reality is a portal that spawns at random places thoughout the zones and only lasts for a very short time, 3 mins. If not clicked in that time it despawns again. Only the first person clicking on the portal can go through and loot the egg.

I didn’t even know this mount existed in the game so I consider myself incredibly lucky that I was out and about in the right place at the right time. I wonder what else might be hiding in the world I’m not aware of. Things like this make me realise why Blizz keep on about how they want to be able to design a world conductive to hidden surprises, puzzles and exploration.

Edge of reality 1

Acheivement Spam

I decided in the count down to Warlords I want to try to get through as many Pandaria ach’s as possible. It’s also a¬† good way to say bye to the zone.

Ach Spam

¬†I’ve been working on a few achievements over on the Isle of Thunder working towards completing all the ach’s for the Storm breaker title. I have to say a huge thanks to McTacky as I needed to kill Feng for the achievement these Mogu Have Gotta Go-Gu and I just couldn’t get an incarnation of Feng to drop. I knew he had been working on the Isle a while ago so sent a whisper asking if he happened to have one left in his bank, which¬† he did and he happily came over without a moment’s hesitation.

If you’re looking to do the treasures of pandaria ach, I recommend the Lost Treasures addon, it puts an arrow on your screen to the location and spawn points on your maps and makes this achievement so much easier. And on the subject of add ons; Npcscan Overlay, makes finding all the rares for Glorious so much easier by putting the patrol paths of rares on your map. If you don’t have it, definitely go get it.

Achievement hunting is a fun way to fill in time, I love seeing the box pop up when I’ve done something and the more I can get done in Pandaria now, the less there is to do later when there’s new and shiny achievements in Draenor to do.

Hearthstoning my way to a mount

Seeing so many people in WoW with the hearthsteed or blogging about it made me want to go and have a try so Friday I put a bit of time into playing it against other players. I had tried it on the beta but only in practice and I hadn’t actually got too far into it, only unlocking a warlock deck and the mage one I had to start with.

Warlock I actually preferred over mage, I just liked how it played so I thought I’d try that in my attempts against real people. I won the first two rounds really easily and was about to win the 3rd;¬† I had a long line of minion cards lined up ready to pound the other player into dust¬† until I played a card with the text “deals 4 damage to all players” and instantly my entire line of minions blew up and died and my hero took 4 damage as well. I think the other player must have just about fell off their chair laughing at what happened and then went on to beat me throughly. That’s the last time I use that card without being really careful about what I have up and what their health is, I thought it would do 4 damage to all the enemy’s cards.

heathstone 1

But I won again on another match and went and logged into wow to get my mount.

hearthstone 2

As a promotional tool to get people to try out hearthstone that may not have been going to, I think it’s very effective. In my case; I logged into wow, picked up the mount and got the achievement,¬† logged off again and went straight back to playing cards.

If you win against a player using a deck you don’t have you get a basic deck of that sort. So in this way I unlocked Shaman, Priest and Hunter decks in one afternoon of playing. Out of all the ones I’ve tried so far I think I like priest best. The way I play it (and I could be completely wrong at it); it seems to be a deck that needs a bit of patience. There are a number of rounds where I pass without doing much but then I can put up a card that allows me to draw a card each time a minion is healed and there are heaps of inexpensive¬† (in points) healing cards so I can go from having nothing on the table to a long line of well healed cards that just keep producing more each time. I quite like it. I think I’ll have to get a bit more confident at what I’m doing and start tying some ranked matches or finally get all the decks unlocked and try arena.

It looks like a game that I could have a lot of fun with if I don’t have time to log into wow for a long session. I just wish I had a tablet so I could play it while away from home. It seems like the perfect time filler for train rides or waiting for appointments or even in between classes at uni where I have free wi-fi and long gaps between classes. hmm I’ll have to download it to my laptop I think.

Anyway if you’re umming or arghing over trying; definitely go try.
